본 연구는 국내 간호대학(학과)의 학사 편입학 과정의 현황을 조사하고 학사 편입학 과정의 증원으로 인해 예상되는 어려움을 파악하여 효과적인 운영 전략을 개발하기 위해 진행되었다.
지난 6년 동안 학사 편입학 과정의 학생은 편제정원을 기준으로 하여 약 6~8%의 학생이었으나, 2019년에는 10% 이상으로 크게 증가하였다. 학사 편입학 과정의 남학생은 평균 20.1%로 정규 과정의 입학 남학생보다 2배 가까이 많았다. 대부분의 대학(학과)에서 학사 편입학 과정은 3년(6학기)동안 운영하였으며, 평균 약 124학점을 졸업이수학점으로 하고 있었다. 많은 학교에서 학사 편입생을 위한 오리엔테이션을 제공하고 있었으나, 담당 교수나 직원을 두고 있는 학교는 소수였다. 학사 편입생의 증원과 관련하여 실습 기관과 실습 지도자의 확보가 어려울 것으로 예상하였다.
학사 편입학 제도는 짧은 시간 안에 집중적인 간호 교육을 통해 면허간호사를 배출할 수 있는 장점뿐만 아니라 이 과정의 입학생은 좀 더 성숙하고 이전 학문의 지식을 간호 학문에 통합할 수 있어 궁극적으로 간호전문직 발전을 도모하는데 효과적인 교육과정이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 전임교원 수의 증원과 실습 교육에 대한 혁신적인 교내 및 정부 차원에서의 지원이 없이는 역량 있는 간호사를 배출하는 데에는 한계가 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe characteristics of colleges implementing the accelerated second-degree bachelor of science in nursing program in South Korea and provide insight into strategies to improve the program outcomes.
Methods: An on-line questionnaire developed for this study was emailed to deans of nursing colleges who were members of the Korean Association of College of Nursing. Questions included items related to nursing college, students, curriculum, and anticipated difficulty in relation to an increase of the number of second-degree students.
Results: Out of 117 nursing schools, 33 schools (28.2%) participated in the on-line survey. The actual number of second-degree students and their ratio (about 10%) to regular students significantly increased in 2019. Male students were enrolled nearly twice as many times as regular students. Among the anticipated difficulties, clinical practice institutions (3.94) and clinical practice instructors (3.73) showed relatively higher scores than other difficulties such as teaching (3.58) and education facilities (3.30).
Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of nursing education for second-degree students, more nursing faculties and innovative clinical practice support systems are needed. Future study is warranted to investigate the educational experience of second-degree students and graduates.
